Many fisherman run into a problem when they try to identify the fish they may have caught that day. It is important to know what kind of fish you caught because most areas have rules and regulations that govern what fish you can keep and which ones you must release. The are a couple of good ways to identify your catch. Some of the best ways to identify your catch is.

You can easily narrow down the type of fish by the type of water as well as the coastal area you are fishing. Many fisherman who fish a new area will do a quick online search to see what kind of fish they may encounter. Jot down a few notes regarding some of the features in the fish generally caught in that area. Once you have caught the fish you can use some of the fish’s features to help identify your catch. Start by looking at the overall length of the fish. Next make a note of the girth. Some other important markers are skin texture and of course the skin color. Note the shape of the fish as well. Certain shapes will make the fish easier to identify.

The title says it all, “Catch And Release: The Best Option.’ You have just experienced the thrill of the catch, as well as the ultimate reward of releasing the fish to be caught again another day. You know deep down that you have played a part in continuing a great and wonderful tradition and sport.

Can you do more to help insure the future of fishing? Sure you can, just releasing your fish isn-t always enough. Time is critical when releasing a caught fish. The less time the fish is out of the water, the better. The more gently you can handle the fish, the better.

Fishery biologist have stressed for years, taking a picture of your catch and then letting it go is the best bet. Usually this is true, unless of course you spend several minutes looking for your camera, snapping the picture, and then releasing the fish. Best case scenario would be for you and your partner to both have cameras, and be prepared to quickly snap photos of each others fish, thus reducing the time the fish is out of the water.

Used properly, catch and release truly is the greatest tool for protecting the sport of fishing that we all cherish and love so much. You thought this was good? Brace yourself: Fishin’ for a Smile

If you’ve been thinking about planning a trip out west via your Satellite Internet Broadband connection you’ve got to hit up at least one of the three best fishing spots in and around the great state of CO.
Glenwood Spring, CO: The Roaring Fork and Colorado Rivers merge right in the heart of town and the city itself is designed for the fishing lifestyle. There’s great weather and tons of great holes that are relatively quiet so this should be your very first stop.
Missoula, MT: Not technically in Colorado, Missoula is a great fly fishing town in its own right. It’s credited with starting the sport and there are tons of great shops and restaurants within the city limits to hit up as well.
Bend, Oregon: A ways from Colorado, Oregon is worth the trip if you’ve got your heart set on some great river fish. You can cast to your heart’s content and hike when you’re bored and don’t forget about the local eating scene that’s huge right now in Oregon.

You may have been thinking about becoming a professional fisher if you really love fishing. Professional fishers participate in fishing tournaments, win trophies, have memberships to fishing clubs and more. A professional fisher is very dedicated to fishing, and have special techniques to be the best fishers. Most have the ability to catch any type of fish in any environment. The best way to become a professional fisher is by learning all the expert tips for winning, get the right kind of gear and having the right attitude
Most professional fishers say the number one thing you need in fishing tournaments is confidence. You must believe that you will win the fishing tournaments, and give it your best with an upbeat attitude. Remember, the more fishing tournaments your participate in, the greater your confidence will become.
Your equipment is very important. No one can do their job the right way with bad tools. Make sure all of your gears work the day before a fishing tournament. Fishing professionals like Peter Thliveros spend hours just spooling new lines, preparing boats and rigging rods. Research about the area you are fishing in a day before the tournament, so you will know the waters and the fish. Remember to practice your technique at least a week before tournaments. Most importantly, enjoy the work you do.The information party rocks on: Photos: 2010 KDW – Blue Heron Fishing Charter with The Buzz

Learning to tie the classic Wooly Bugger lure is easy. You need a hook, marabou feather, hackle, chenille, head cement, needle, scissors, hackle pliers, thread and a fly-tying vice.

Clamp hook curve in the vice. Start wrapping thread upwards from middle of hook shank until it’s in line with hook point.

Place marabou over wrapped thread so the extended tail is the length you want. Tie on by wrapping thread tightly around it 3 times. Clip off excess feather.

Place chenille strip along the marabou and wrap end with thread 3 times. Wind thread downwards to the hook eye. Wrap chenille downwards to the eye. Wrap thread twice around chenille end and cut off excess.

Lay the hackle along hook body with tip at the eye. Secure with thread. Using hackle pliers, wrap the hackle with 4 or 5 wide spaces upward to marabou. Wrap thread upwards, wiggling through hackle feather to marabou, then work thread back to the eye, again wiggling between hackle feather.

Use a whip finish with thread above the eye. Trim all loose ends. Add a drop of cement with needle at the finishing tie. When the cement dries, you’re ready to use your new lure.

If you’re planning a fishing trip to Colorado and your looking to catch trout you may be in for a surprise. Many people think that a trout is just one species of fish and that’s it. Well for those of you under that misconception, there are several species of trout to be found in Colorado.

When it comes to the trout that you can find swimming the waters of Colorado, there are actually five different species that inhabit those waters.

Trout Species of Colorado

RAINBOW TROUT
A Colorado mainstay, the rainbow trout was first introduced into the waters of Colorado back in the 1880′s, and today are stocked annually from local hatcheries.

CUTTHROAT TROUT
The cutthroat trout, like the species that it hails from, has several different subspecies also including the Colorado, the Greenback and the Rio.

BROWN TROUT
Difficult to catch, the brown trout can be found in the streams of Colorado at higher elevations.

BROOK TROUT
Another species brought to the lakes and streams of Colorado in the late 1800′s; brook trout can very easily become overpopulated and can out-compete other species of fish when this occurs. This hardy species is also found in the lakes that also house beaver dams and in smaller streams.

LAKE TROUT
The Mackinaw or lake trout are by far the largest species of trout found in all of North America. Catching lake trout will take you to high elevation lakes where they can be caught in the deeper waters of those lakes.
